- Have faith in the evaluating professional’s expertise or conclusion? (Lingering doubt can sabotage progress.)
- Have clarity on how specific symptoms might be manifesting in your life?
- Have data you can use to target treatment goals and track progress?
- Understand how to begin distinguishing ADHD from “look a-likes” such as anxiety, depression, etc.?
If thinking about pursuing a diagnosis, do you:
- Harbor skepticism about ADHD being a “diagnosis”?
- Realize that not all mental-health professionals are qualified to evaluate for or treat ADHD?
- Know enough to be confidently (but diplomatically) pro-active in the evaluation process?
- Understand why recruiting a partner or friend to help tackle this process might be a smart move?
